Not all women can pull off “serious bad-ass” without coming off as if they are trying to overcompensate, but Faith Hunter pulls it off with Jane Yellowrock, and pulls it off with grace.
Leather – Check, Loads of Knives – Check, Guns – Check, unholy loud motorcycles – check.
Yep, Bad-Ass.
Although I suppose when you have the 2 souls and one of them is a Mountain Lion, bad-ass comes a little more naturally. Raven Cursed is the 4th book in the Jane Yellowrock series by Faith Hunter and I really have to say this is my favorite so far. I love the honesty of the internal conflict as well has her passion for those she loves. If you have not read any of the books here is a general idea:
Jane Yellowrock is a Cherokee Indian and a skinwalker. In Jane’s world a skinwalker can take the form of other animals as long as she has something, such as a tooth or claw that contains the DNA of that animal. The twist is she also has 2 souls living inside her. One soul is Jane and one is “Beast”. Jane lives in a world where Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, and Shifters are common knowledge in the human world, but they are still adjusting to this knowledge.
Faith Hunter is doing a great job developing all the character especially Jane and really enjoy the scientific explanations Faith Hunter uses to stabilize this world. I could always use more Ricky-Bo, but I guess I will have to wait…. =)
This book could be read alone, but I think you would miss a lot of the depth this book contains.
