Halfway to the Grave is the first book in the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. This review is based on the audio book.
Catherine Crawfield is determined to destroy every vampire she comes across…or searches for. Either way. Catherine was raised to hate vampires after her mother was raped by a vampire and Catherine was conceived. That makes Cat not quite human. She is faster, has better vision, and is stronger then any human and possibly one of a kind. At 22 years old she is convinced she knows what’s evil. It is vampires…..All vampires.
Until she stumbles upon a vampire named Bones. Bones will make her question what she believes and look inside herself. Can she look past her judgments to accomplish a common goal?
Although this is not the first Audio book I have ever listened to, it is the first paranormal. Having someone read certain (wink wink) scenes is a little awkward. At least to me. *note to self make sure office door is closed at all times and windows are up in car next time!
That being said I still completely enjoyed listening to this book.
Cat is determined and always seems to know exactly what she wants. She is fiery, spunky, and can totally kick some ass. I loved her. Jeaniene Frost did a wonderful job writing her characters with such vividness I am pretty sure the phrase ” ‘Ello Kitten” will echo in my thoughts every time I meet someone British for the rest of my life! In Cat’s world vampires and other things that go “bump in the night” are not common knowledge. Cat is obsessed with killing vampires and when she comes across Bones only the temptation of his help finding her father opens her up. Cat has a strenuous relationship with not only her own family, but the whole town. She has been judged since the day she was born and who can escape that? Bones is wonderful, what else can I say? He is dreamy, strong, sexy, and him and Cat have great chemistry. I know that there is a million reviews on this book and I have had it sitting on my shelf (the whole series) for quite some time. I can honestly say that I regret waiting this long as this is a wonderful book. Tavia Gilbert did the reading and read it beautifully.
I give Halfway to the Grave 5 out of 5 Bullets
