Hounded is an original mixture of humor and Irish folklore! I loved it!
“Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old—when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer.
Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries. Now the determined deity has tracked him down, and Atticus will need all his power—plus the help of a seductive goddess of death, his vampire and werewolf team of attorneys, a sexy bartender possessed by a Hindu witch, and some good old-fashioned luck of the Irish—to kick some Celtic arse and deliver himself from evil.”

Hounded is the first book in the Iron Druid Chronicles
Hounded is an original mixture of humor and Irish folklore. I love all mythology and folklore, but the Irish tales have always touched a special place in my heart. Hounded is no exception. Atticus is attempting to live a basically normal life. Hiding from an ancient Irish god for the last 21 centuries, whom believes he has a right to possess a sword that Atticus has, is getting a little tiresome. Atticus has made a decision to end this now and return to his normal life. I mean…as normal as life can be when you have dog you can talk to and you are 2100 years old. Atticus is loyal, funny, and pretty darn perky for someone that old. I loved him. He is just a go-with-the-flow kinda guy. Ancient Irish god trying to kill him – Aye – goddesses manipulating him for their own agenda – Aye – still having a great time and cracking jokes – Aye -reviewer now thinking with an Irish accent – Aye.
Atticus is accompanied by an array of paranormal creatures. Witches, Werewolves, and Vampires..nothing is left out. All of the paranormal’s had a different twist and I felt that Mr. Hearne did an interesting thing here. He made them care about money! I mean think about it. How many books have you read where the characters are motivated by money in any way, shape, or form. It was a nice touch. Mr. Hearne also used many references that I found seriously amusing (It was everything from Pantera to Kansas and Star Trek to South Park). Hounded is a great book and a wonderful beginning to a series. I loved all the characters and cannot wait to read more!
I wanted to add that I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hearne at a local signing last week. He is just down to earth, funny, and as immature as I am. So if you ever get a chance to go to a signing or visit him at an event – Do It!!
I give Hounded 4 out of 5 Bullets!
