In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war raging between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret bound of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Possessed by a deadly beast Rhage is the most dangerous of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetites. He's the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover-for inside him burns ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin. Owned by this dark side, Rhage fears the time when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him.
Mary Luce, a survivor of many hardships is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world and reliant to Rhage's protection. With a life-threatening curse of her own, Mary is not looking for love. She lost her faith in miracles years ago. But when Rhage's intense animal attraction turns into something more emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves...
I will admit that I am late to the J.R. Ward fan party. Above and beyond fashionably late! Lover Eternal is the second book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and didn’t fall short. Rhage has been cursed by Scribe Virgin. He holds a monster or dragon like being within himself and it is his burden to fear the lack of control he holds over this being. When he shifts into this being he looses himself completely.
Mary Luce considers herself ordinary and a survivor, but can’t comprehend why the beautiful Rhage becomes fascinated by her.
A stunningly beautiful story laced with so much emotion and heart you truly become consumed in this world. It holds a raw edge of brutality in some ways and J.R. Ward appears to never hold anything back. Although the tone of Lover Eternal is a bit dark, I never felt overwhelmed by it. Possibly because each of the characters fears and desires adds so much to the story. Even the heroes in this world are flawed and scarred adding to the overall wonder and awe of this story. Flawless world building helps pull you into the world of the Brotherhood and leaves you begging for more!
I rate Lover Eternal 5 out of 5 Bullets
