No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…
As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.
As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…
You know I am in a review slump when it takes me damn near two months to write a review for a new release in one of my favorite series. It has been crickets around here, guys! Trust me, I am trying to step back up my game and start kicking some series review ass. Starting NOW.
Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews is the 7th installment in their Kate Daniels series. I don’t auto buy many authors, in part just because my reading list is a little overwhelming. The other half of that is because some of my favorite series just seem to go down hill after years of being committed to the stories. I hate the disappointment and it hurts my pocket book sometimes as well. Although, my pocketbook is certainly more sensitive than my feelings. However, I can safely say that Magic Breaks did not let me down. If anything, it surprised me and rekindled my love for the characters in Andrews world. Maybe part of my delay was just that I feel a little fan-girlish every time I site down to write this. All I can think is “OMG IT WAS SO GREAT”. Yeah, I know that would not be very helpful
**Spoilers for previous books in this series are contained below**
So much of Kate’s past has been revealed so far, but Magic Breaks takes it to the next level. We actually get to meet the progenitor. There is actually interactions here! My mind was kind of blown because I was starting to feel it would likely never really happen, but not only did it happen it exploded my brain. Truly. *boom* I also see Kate growing so much as a person and realizing her own flaws is really a great dynamic and always one of the things that makes a series read so wonderful. And it is not just Kate that is growing either. Many of the secondary characters are right there was well as the world changes and their reality is shaken up.
I rate Magic Breaks 4.5 out of 5 Bullets
I personally purchased this title. All opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way.
