Lucy Camberlain almost lost her life in a car accident that killed four other teenagers. Suffering from a spinal injury, the vibrant sixteen year old finds herself paralyzed and helpless. Her wealthy father hires a private nurse to care for her and sends them to the last place on Earth Lucy would ever want to go: the Camberlain family home.

Nurse Carrie Mason is more than happy to take Rob Camberlain’s money. Six months of her time, the job will pay more than a year’s salary. With no roots, no family, and nothing more than a suitcase, she moves into the plantation house with Lucy. She’s experienced, confident, and not in the least bit concerned about Lucy’s bizarre relatives.

Within a few days of being in the house, Carrie realizes Lucy is in danger. The meddling aunts are nothing compared to the sinister presence that wants Lucy. When the dark forces begin to exploit Carrie’s deepest weaknesses, will she be strong enough to fight for Lucy--and herself?

Congenital Defects by A.D. Roland is a full out horror that brings you in, traumatizes you and then haunts not only your nightmares but your day dreams as well. In other words…it does everything a horror book should do.

Congenital Defects is NOT for the faint at heart. If you are the type of reader that searches blurbs and book information for trigger warnings, then this book is probably one you want to pass up. It pushes boundaries and social stigmas right off a fucking cliff, especially if you are the estrogen filled variety of human. A.D. Roland shocks your psyche and drags you into a dark place right along with her main characters, Lucy and Carrie. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride into the dark side, with so many gloriously disturbing twists and turns, it’s a book I will not forget any time soon.

Fellow horror fans, if you want something different and beautifully disturbing, pick up Congenital Defects now!
