FanExpo Dallas ~ What do YOU want to know?

March 22, 2017 My Thoughts, Uncategorized 2

The time is almost upon us! FanExpo Dallas is only 10 days away and I am woefully unprepared. Pieces of my cosplay are truly..pieces. That means it is TIME. Time for the panic that seems to ignite motivation in my veins and fire in my heart!
It is also time to decide which celebrity will make the final cut into my photo-op budget. The budget is slim, my friends! *bites nails*
And finally, it is time to decide which comic artists I want to seek out and obtain work from or have them sign current comics I own and/or see what they have available. FanExpo's list is a little vague, only listing the names of artists, and not any of their creations. Luckily, a few of the publishers were kind enough to help me out (Thank you Kat - Image Comics!) and point me to any artists they have attending.

You can buy tickets now by clicking on the graphic on the left or by going to the website at Bringing a minion along? Check out the super secret coupon for FREE admission for children (up to two kinds) between the ages of 6-12! This is an awesome deal if you buy an upgraded ticket, as it gives your minion an equal pass to yours. A great excuse to get a VIP pass, right? OK, you can find this hidden gem by going to the tickets page and scrolling almost ALL THE WAY down to the bottom of the page (under Coupons - shocking, right!) ....don't forget to print it and bring it with you!

Celebrities....they are their own beast and FanExpo has created an official jungle. They pulled out the big guns this year, with names like Tim Curry, Mark Hamill, Normal Reedus, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Adam West, Burt Ward, Jason Isaacs, Khary Payton, John Barrowman......SEE. The massive list continues. You can check out the site for the full celebrity line-up.

If this is your first time attending a con with celebrities, here are things I wish I had known:

  1. Photo-ops (pictures with the celebrity) are purchased separately. You can view the pricing each celebrity doing photos here: and the times are listed here:
  2. The photo-op does not include any kind of protective cover. Plan on bringing something safe to slide your picture into or buying a hard photo slip at the con. Typically they are around $5-$15 each. You can use them for more than one photo and are reusable.
  3. The photo-op does NOT include a signature. This is a separate price and totally different adventure. FanExpo did a really great job this year providing their program early and you can check out the program and see what times and dates each celebrity is signing here:
  4. Fan-girl (or boy) away. Seriously, who cares, just no licking. It is fine to be excited and just be yourself. Roll will it! licking.

The other truly great thing about these types of conventions, is the artists, and I am not just saying that because sometimes I am one. Even when I attend as an artist, I still budget to buy things that are outside my own art form.

Be prepared for some amazing professional comic artists, fan artists and just about everything else you can imagine! Support these artists by purchasing their work and doing some more fan-girling (or BOY) over artists that might have inked or lined some of your favorite characters.

Here are some of the artists I KNOW I will be seeking out:

Mostofa Moussa

...Inker extraordinaire that will more than likely have some awesome original artwork for sale too . Mostofa has inked for many companies (Marvel, Image) and hails from Texas. He is a long time nerd and is a genuinely nice dude. Go talk to him and chat about all things comic related! You can stalk him before the con and check out his official website below. I have prints from this artist and really enjoy his work.

Eduardo Risso

Cover artist of Moonshine. My fellow paranormal lovers...pretty sure this particular comic book involves werewolves and has been high on my TBR pile for a while. Not only do I love the crisp art work, it's a story of backwoods Appalachia, moonshine and supernatural shenanigans.

IMAGE Comics is also one of my favorites. In my opinion, they are putting out some of the best works filled with diversity and wrapping them in mind-blowing original art. I do not know if Eduardo Risso will have any copies for sale, so I will likely buy mine in advance (OMFG LIKE NOW) and see if he can be coerced into signing it. Along with drooling on his prints for sale, that I already know I will be unable to resist.

Greg Capullo

How I have not heard about this beyond me. Sci-fi fantasy of the year!?! The artwork looks beautiful and currently it looks like there are 5 issues. I need this now.

"MARK MILLAR & GREG CAPULLO join forces to create the smash hit sci-fi / fantasy story of the year: REBORN. Where do you go when you die? Not heaven or hell; somewhere else. Somewhere you have to fight to survive. Somewhere the people from the past are waiting for you—the good and the bad."

Gail Simone

Wow. This lady kicks-ass. She has worked on Deadpool, Wonder Woman, Welcome to Tranquility and so SO much more...

Crosswind is coming June 21, 2017 from Image and is certainly going on my buy list.

Image Comics is thrilled to announce CROSSWIND, the brand-new ongoing thriller from fan-favorites Gail Simone and Cat Staggs, arriving in stores this June. A slick and ruthless Chicago hitman. A smart but downtrodden Seattle housewife. When an inexplicable event strikes these two random strangers, their bodies, souls, and lives are switched—to potentially deadly effect.

A.D.: After Death, jeff lemire, image comics, comic artists

Jeff Lemire

OK, there are so many great artists going...I clearly am going to have a crisis. A credit card crisis. I might need an intervention.

Again, Image Comics is putting out epic quality material.

WHAT IF WE FOUND A CURE FOR DEATH? Two of comics’ most acclaimed creators, SCOTT SNYDER and JEFF LEMIRE unite to create a three-part epic like no other, set in a future where a genetic cure for death has been found. Years after the discovery, one man starts to question everything, leading him on a mind-bending journey that will bring him face-to-face with his past and his own mortality.

So, you can all see I have a favorite comic book publisher. I'm an Image Comic kind of girl and I am not ashamed!

That being said, I know this is just the tip of the iceberg. Artists of all kinds will be there, along with the celebrities and vendors to supply just about any kind of FAN anything you can dream up.

Are you visiting FanExpo Dallas? Do you have any questions about conventions or the area?

I don’t think I am going to make any of the Friday events, but the Mini and I will be there Saturday and Sunday! I still haven’t made a final decision on celebrity tickets. It is so hard to choose!
