Rambling Thoughts by Heather

July 8, 2017 My Thoughts 3

Ok, so this is the first time I have had just rambling thoughts. I leave those to Annie (snicker). I was recently looking over the number of reviews I have left in the last two and a half years and was amazed at the quantity left and the different authors. I admit I have not reviewed every book I have read, shame on me, but the books I have reviewed I have enjoyed for the most part. They are mostly 3-5 star books, yes I have read some crappy ones but have not reviewed. Why? Who the hell knows.

My first reviews were only a couple of lines and I really want to gag at what I wrote. I liked this book, I loved this book, can’t wait for the next. GAG! Wow have I grown since then. Grown in not only reviews but what I read as well. Something that may have been an “oh hell no” a couple of years ago maybe a “give me more” now. I know those reviews still helped in a way because Amazon looks at the number of reviews. Don’t get me going on Amazon, I am trying to be nice here. The numbers of reviews left helps the authors in that Amazon will spotlight or promo books with x number of reviews. So, I guess every little bit helps.

But anyway on to what I was thinking when I started typing this post. I have actually been asked “Why do you read her? She is a drama queen.” “Why do you read her books? She is a bitch.” etc. My answer, because I like the book or series. I like the story and I am not going to judge a book by the actions or opinions of the author, just like I would not judge a book by it’s cover. As the saying goes “opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.” This is so very true. While I may not agree with you or your view on things, I will read your books. IF I LIKE THE STORY. That is my main point I guess.

Don’t let public opinion dictate your choice in books or authors. Unless it is someone who just out right steals and copies another author’s work, I do draw the line there and I really hope others do too. Don’t let opinions get in the way of what you like to read.

Opinions are all over the board and what matters is what you like. I hope you have picked up a good book today!

I have let the actions, or more like words, a specific author has said determine whether I go on and read the rest of the series. I think I’ve cooled off enough and will probably go back and read the one I DNF’d as well as the one after. I was just really amazed by what the author was supporting and didn’t want associated with her at all.

I tend to be way more of a bitch than Heather. LOL Although, it depends on the severity…. I just can’t seem to overcome knowing the author feels XXXX about certain things (especially humanitarian issues). My brain just won’t let me. There is even one series that I read for YEARS and after an outburst from the author, I couldn’t finish the last and final book in the series. I do WISH that I could disconnect the author from their books, but sometimes that is not always possible for me. I will say that this tends to focus on human rights, victim issues and blaming others as a whole. Mostly, other things I can just roll my eyes on move on.

What a great rambling rant you have going here. There have been a couple of others that I struggle to read because of their actions or something they said that I just couldn’t be okay with and have stopped reading. I have tried, but I also feel such negative thoughts and emotions that I just let that author go. I do remember my first reviews and man I look back and almost cringe. I have learned quite a lot since then. What I love about having a blog, is the growth and learning and the friendships we gather. I try not to judge what others read even if I don’t agree…because we all have different opinions and personalities so not every author or book will work for everyone. Thanks for sharing your thoughts here and I am looking forward to exploring more of your site.
