Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she's used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family's detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor "Mad" Rogan.
Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada's "talent." But there's no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice . . .

White Hot is the second book in Ilona Andrews’ Hidden Legacy Series. Can I get a WHOOP WHOOP? I hope so, because after feeling a little let down in the romance department in the first book, Burn for Me, White Hot didn’t disappoint!
White Hot came out ahead from the first chapter and didn’t slow down. I think I heard the race horse trumpets…you know the ones. Instantly addicting, I savagely consumed this book. Andrews’ continues to do one very specific thing that I feel other authors fall short of, character growth. Not only with the main characters, but in every character in the book. Maybe it isn’t just the “growth” per se, maybe they just have a special talent for widening the lense little by little, until your mind is blown. That is what White Hot reads like. Burn for Me was a little ray, a spec, a glimpse upon the world. White Hot was flying above the city, looking down with a broader view of it.
A great number of paranormal romance and urban fantasy books tend to have lead characters that don’t have much – if any – family. Nevada is encompassed in family. It is her base and provides a welcoming dynamic to the story and genre. I love that Nevada is strong and complete without Rogan. And that is all I am going to say about that. =)
White Hot is not a book you want to miss, nor is Hidden Legacy a series you want to pass up. Original world building with interesting magical politics joins forces with beautifully created characters. I still personally feel this series leans towards fantasy/urban fantasy with the added bonus of romance.
